Dale Vince, CEO

Dale Vince was a hippy living in the back of vans who erected a wind turbine at the Glastonbury rock festival and became a green energy mover and shaker. Since creating this alternative utility in the mid-1990s, he has been responsible for 12 windfarms across the UK and doubled the company's capacity in 2006-07. Ecotricity, which had a turnover of '€27m and profits of '€1.8m last year, also supplies businesses with on-site clean energy. But the company's proudest statistic is its new renewable energy capital expenditure divided by its total customers: '€396 compared to second-ranked Scottish & Southern's '€40.
