Spirits

Ian Wisniewski identifies six seasonal spirits

Hailing from Speyside’s smallest distillery, Benromach Origins (€50, www.benromach.com) is full of dried fruits and toffee. Next up is Scottish grain whisky in the form of Hedonism Maximus (€200, www.compassboxwhisky.com), offering a rich, full-flavoured palate. The third whisky is the very limited Glenfiddich Vintage Reserve (€450, www.glenfiddich.com), from 1977. A Pandora’s box of taste sensations from start to finish. Time to party with a beefy vodka: Belvedere Intense (€45, www.belvedere-vodka.com), up to 50% from its usual 40%, is a classy, Polish vodka distilled from rye, its flavours accentuated by the added strength. If you prefer margheritas, try Jose Cuervo Platino, (€70, www.josecuervoplatino.com), the latest in deluxe tequilas. Fresh aromas with plenty of cinnamon are a great start. Finish the evening with a single harvest Armagnac the Marquis de Montesquiou 1967 (€140, www.ar-emporia.com). Produced entirely from ugni blanc grapes. The result is aromas offering fudge, gingerbread, and caramel.
