THE ARMORY SHOW|
NEW YORK
New York resumes its role as backdrop for one of the world’s leading fine art fairs from 4–7 March. In its 12th year, The Armory Show attracts artists, galleries, collectors, critics and curators from all over the world, showcasing artwork from the 20th and 21st centuries.
With a mission “to offer collectors the best art from 1900 to today” the event’s organiser Paul Morris has set his sights high. The fair will feature 227 galleries from 31 countries and will introduce a new section, ArmoryFocus, which will spotlight a new art community each year. ArmoryFocus kicks off with Berlin and will include 22 of the German capital’s leading galleries.
British contemporary artist Susan Collis has the illustrious job of creating the fair’s ‘visual identity’ with commissions to produce three special pieces – the proceeds of which will go to charity. Collis’ work has become known for its painstaking facsimiles of mundane objects. One of the pieces, No show, may look like an ordinary screw alongside four holes but on closer inspection you notice the screw is silver and the holes are laid with dusky gems. Expect more surprises at the Armory Show this year. thearmoryshow.com
