John Kotter is the chief innovation officer at Kotter International, a professor emeritus at Harvard Business School and the author of a whole library of books on leadership and change. These have been printed in more than 70 languages and have racked up total sales in excess of 2 million. They include Leading Change, Our Iceberg Is Melting and Power and Influence. Kotter’s latest book, co-written with Lorne Whitehead, is Buy-In: Saving Your Good Idea from Getting Shot Down. It has just been published by Harvard Business Press.

“I don’t carry much with me,” says John. “I avoid carrying anything that isn’t completely necessary to my day.”

iPhone My iPhone keeps me in touch witheverything – I check and respond to urgent emails on it all the time. And I am a big fan of the iPhone’s simple-to-use audio and video capabilities.

Legal pad and pen I travel all the time, and I encounter situations that give me great new ideas. Even with all the amazing new technology, I still like to sketch out ideas on paper.

Gym card I work out every day – I think physical fitness is essential to mental fitness. I want to be able to drop by the gym at any point during my day.
