Timeless colours

From €5,130

Denmark’s Bang & Olufsen regularly astounds TV viewers with its stylish David Lewis designs, but the company’s upgraded 50-inch (€5,130) and 65-inch (€9,230) BeoVision 4 models add to the aesthetics with a technical feature designed to keep the plasma TV performing at its best throughout its lifetime. An internal camera periodically measures the colour balance of the screen, prompting software to automatically make colour adjustments to compensate for ageing phosphors. Bang & Olufsen also introduced the more portable BeoVision 8 (€2,220), a 32-inch LCD model suitable for loft-style living.

Making a splash

Have fun making underwater films or photos easily, using Liquid Image’s digital underwater camera mask. Just line up the target with the crosshairs on the mask, and then press the capture button. The 5.1 mega-pixel camera comes with 16MB of internal memory, which can be expanded with a micro SD card.

A touch of red

Nearly every TV manufacturer introduced remarkably thin models, reducing depth to that of a few stacked credit cards. LG showed a bit more flair than most by adding smart red trim to its 47-inch model, the LG-75 (price to be announced). This LCD model is only 1.7 inches deep and sports a thin bezel around the frame that hides the TV speakers. An array of 128 LED backlights help produce a brighter, more colourful picture. Sharp and Samsung, incidentally, also debuted models dressed in red to make the fashion trend abundantly clear.

Search in 3D

Free download
www.spacetime.com
SpaceTime 1.0 is a program that lets you conduct internet searches in a three-dimensional environment. This means websites stack up like separate pages so you can easily flip through them. Likewise, the day’s most popular video clips from YouTube, for example, can be stacked on a reel for easy viewing. Using SpaceTime makes you feel like Neo from The Matrix, ordering up a selection of weapons for use in the virtual world. A PC version is already available, Mac version coming soon.
