HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE ESPECIAL, 2008

ORIGIN: CUBA SIZE: 141MM X 50 RING GAUGE COST: €20-25

1. We have been in awe of the Epicure No.1 and No.2 for years, so the introduction of the Epicure Especial is nothing short of inspired. The slightly larger Robusto was very popular when released as a Limited Edition in 2004; today it is hard to find. The new cigar has a well-balanced strength and flavour with an impressive appearance and combustion. I expect it to become as popular as the Edmundo has been with Montecristo devotees.

H. UPMANN MAGNUM 50, 2008

ORIGIN: CUBA SIZE: 160MM X 50 RING GAUGE ) COST: €22-28

2. Now here’s a cigar to give the tired old Churchill format a run for its money. If you desire a longer smoke, one that will indulge your time and senses, then this is a winner. Previously available as a Limited Edition back in 2005 the Magnum 50 is an attractive option for those who prefer a milder, delicate and more aromatic cigar with great balance and poise. May well become a classic on par with the Sir Winston.

H. UPMANN MAGNUM 46, 2008

ORIGIN: CUBA SIZE: 143MM X 46 RING GAUGE COST: €18-24

3. Rather clever this repackaging of the familiar old Magnum 46. In the past the cigar was only available in cabinet selection boxes of 25 cigars and may well have been overlooked. But now this Corona Gorda will appeal to a wider public presented in convenient packs of three tubes. The cigar retains all the character of the larger Magnum 50 and will prove popular as a daytime smoke.
