Tools of the trade
An iPad with subscriptions to The Times, and the FT and various business magazines. A BlackBerry, which these days is mostly used just as a phone.
Reading materials
I am reviewing CVs of the candidates for CloudApps’ US operations. We love to hire exceptional people. I also have a print out of the three-year plan for a great company, Cúram Software (whose board I sit on). I also have session plan for my work coaching field hockey in state schools. As part of this I always carry sponsorship forms for the £1m we are trying to raise for Surbiton Hockey Club. I am also currently carrying the specificatons of a dinghy I just bought for my daughter.
Travel essentials
Passport in holder with ESTA validation for US entry; Oyster card (never too topped up) for London Underground in wallet.
Stationery
A plain blue notebook, a black pen and a pencil. In meetings, it is vital to jot down actions and owners. You should never leave the scene of a decision without taking actions; if you do you can consider that no decision had been made.
Training material
I also carry a hockey stick and shin pads in my car for my coaching.
