Case Study: Glen Manchester

Why Glen Manchester can’t do without goggles and an iPad

Glen Manchester is CEO of Thunderhead, a software company he founded in 2001 that works with 14 of the 16 largest investment banks. After gaining a foothold in investment banking by streamlining physical and digital document generation, the company is doing the same for retail banking, insurance, healthcare, utilities and government. Manchester is a keen supporter of charities he believes make a difference, including Debate Mate, which works with young people and, like Thunderhead, aims to enhance communication.

You will always find inside…

iPad
No surprise here! I am a digital convert and pretty well all my news, mags, business correspondence, banking and so forth is received and processed online.

Books
I have a travel guide on China to prepare for a visit to Lijiang next month and I’m reading Digital Photography for Dummies. My 12-year-old son Jack and I have recently discovered photography and because “my pictures are way better than yours, dad”, I need to get beyond the ‘snap’ phase.

Goggles
Lots of recent business travel to the US has meant that I’ve accumulated a bit of puppy fat, so I’ve signed up for a triathlon (and the training that goes with it). My goggles are never too far away but I haven’t yet figured out how to fit the bike in.

Notepad
I keep a reassuring foot in the analogue world with a hard-copy notebook for the unfathomable notes I take.

Business cards
Another ‘analogue essential’ that I need to have a stock of.

Property plans
The designs I’ve been fine- tuning over the past two years for a Regency-style home. The plans have just been approved, which is very exciting!
