BREIDENBACHER HOF

DÜSSELDORF

Location This five-star establishment has an unbeatable location, with the designer shopping strip along tree-lined Königsallee to one side and the Old Town’s lively nightlife a short walk in the opposite direction. The banking district is immediately to the south and the airport is minutes away. A short cab ride will bring you to the emerging business centre around the Media Harbour.

Style A blend of traditional and contemporary; the overall effect is unashamedly luxurious, with tasteful colours, polished stone and dark panelling hinting at the almost 200-year history of the original Breidenbacher Hof, which closed in 1999. The present building is new but aims to re-create the ambience of a big city grand hotel, complete with a sweeping staircase and lobby lounge where afternoon tea is served to the accompaniment of a custom-built Bechstein grand piano. The hotel incorporates 18 private apartments, 4,000m2 of office space and boutiques including Escada, Calvin Klein and Marco Polo; its Capella Bar & Cigar Lounge was one of 10 nominated for the Glenfiddich Bar of the Year 2010, while the Brasserie 1806, which serves regional specialities, seafood and steaks from a lava grill, also boasts a private dining room that can seat up to 14 people. The exclusive Capella Living Room plies hotel guests with complimentary drinks, fruit and pastries.

Guestrooms There are 79 rooms and 16 suites, elegantly furnished in the conservative but tasteful style of the public areas. Specifications are suitably lavish, with even the 41m2 standard rooms boasting iPod sockets, LCD TVs, and a refreshment centre with free drinks. Bathrooms feature monsoon showers, lavish quantities of stone, and TV screens integrated into the mirror.

Can I work here? There’s free wireless internet throughout the hotel and free access to the local area network. Rooms are equipped with three telephones – one of them cable-free – and each has a work desk with plentiful natural light. For the duration of their stay, guests are assigned a Personal Assistant to tend to their needs.
