MAMAISON HOTEL LE REGINA

Warsaw

Location

Unlike Warsaw’s other five-star hotels, which cluster around the business and banking district, the Mamaison is situated on a quiet cobbled street in the Old Town. Most of the tourist sites are within easy walking distance and meetings are unlikely to be more than a 15-minute taxi ride away. Public transport options are limited, but given the rock-bottom price of cabs and the friendly staff’s ability to summon one at five minutes’ notice day or night, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Style

Fans of Mamaison’s ritzier properties in Prague, Budapest and Moscow may find Le Regina disappointing at first glance. Warsaw’s only high-end boutique hotel is no urban palace or temple to cutting-edge design – understated charm is the watchword here, with airy rooms, a shady courtyard and acres of natural stone giving a relaxed, country villa vibe that contrasts pleasantly with the downtown corporate megaliths. The warm and welcoming lobby bar is a popular venue for informal business get-togethers, while in the cosy restaurant Pawel Oszczyk serves up fine dining fare with a Polish twist. Service is intelligent and cheerful – indeed, the only thing not to like is the paucity of fitness options, which are limited to a tiny pool and a couple of cardio machines.

Guestrooms

Part of the Mamaison’s appeal is its comparatively tiny size – with just 61 rooms it’s the most discreet venue in town. Floor space is generous – indeed, in some rooms visitors will need excellent eyesight to see the TV from their beds – and deluxe rooms also offer good-sized private terraces. Décor is in restful shades of brown and vanilla with the exception of the funky, open-plan Penthouse Suite, done out in 1960s-style black and white.

Can I work here?

Don’t expect high-tech desks withevery gadget, but if all you need to work is peace, quiet and free Wi-fi you’ll be fine here. There’s a small but well thought-out basement suite of meeting rooms with capacity for 120 and the day package, including a lavish lunch, is a snip at €55
